Barcelona Secret Restaurants #3
Althought it has only been a week, it seems to me like an eternity since I ever wrote any post at all. Anyway, I'm back (again) and this time with a quite good reason: Barcelona Secret Restaurants - post 3! Sound awesome, doesn't it? It was a warm - even though wintery - night in the city and my mum and I took the evening to the sales shopping at Passeig de Gràcia (thank you mum, and dad, for being almost always so nice). After that, we all reunited with some old friends with whom we share a lot of memories, like our lunch at Ca la Nuri by the way, to now enjoy a nice dinner together.
Where would a nice, casual and not too expensive restaurant be? Oh, my mum had the answer. Boosting her Portuguese roots she suggested going to 'A Casa Portuguesa' in Eixample's neighborhood.

The Portuguese House is one of those restaurants that you could say they hit the three Cs: comfortable, chic and cheap. It is simply a truly cozy place where to enjoy a great meal. A little space, happily decorated... they keep it nice and simple. And by the way, you will be able to taste the very best of the Portuguese cuisine, Want to see it? Keep scrolling down.
Once we were all set up it was time for ordering, and eating! They serve a wide variety of optiongs, ranging from soups, salads, fish (specially baclhao, cod fish in English) and meat. As for us, we attempted to tackle as many options as we could -and we were 7 so that wasn't quite hard. For first plates, my mum ordered the classical Portuguese vegetables soup, and the rest of us shared a tasty chickpeas and cod fish salad, toasted bread with tuna (or something like that), a Russian salad and something else that I unfortunately can't remember right now. Everyting was so good! Fresh, nicely cooked and delicious.
It is now time for main course! And here comes my favorite part: they wisely manage to keep their dishes simple, basic but undeniably good. It is not fancy complicated food, but just tasty food. Some of us ordered cod fish, which they know quite many different recipes for (and I'm sure you'll find the right one for you, although I would strongly recommend giving a try to Bacalhau a Bras) and some of us ordered meats like the basic but perfect Bitoque (a steak, french fries, rice salad and FRIED EGG, what else could you ever ask for?), or the brochette. And even though it didn't aplly to us, I'm sure vegetarians will also find their perfect choice.
Finally, desert time. There were a few we tried, but my all time favorite, that one I can't say no to it is the Cookie and Coffe Cake. So unbelievable good that it could not be fully expressed in words.
Basically, in a few words, all our meals at the restaurant have been a wonderful experience (whcih have already been quite a few), no matter if it is Tuesady or Saturday, lunch or dinner. I have even asked my mum if we could go back at some time soon, seeing all the photos just brought me such great memories. The waiters are truly nice people and always pleased to give you a hand in whatever you might need, the atmosphere is friendly and cozy, the food fantastic and fully delicious... all the perfect ingredients to cook up an amazing time in the Portuguese House. Congratulations.
Would you give it a try?
Sincerely,
Vera
