Oh, I am finally back with the Barcelona Beginners Guide. First part was about the basics you need to know and second relied into useful language and sentences to use in Barcelona. Now it is turn for the third (out of five, so don't miss them!) one: There is a Barcelona For You. Yes, if you are still wondering, yes. I can assure there is a perfect place for everybody in this wonderful city. I have tried to comply a different and variated list of things you can do, see, explore in Barcelona for all kinds of tastes, forgive me if I didn't hit yours! So, here it is, the BARCELONA FOR...
...for FOODIES.
If you are a foodie you have definitely found your place. Barcelona is home for some of the most important and well-known restaurants in the world, but it also has some other cheap but tasty options. You should check out La Boqueria, the biggest traditional market in town. It is beautiful, full of food and full of life. Then finally there is an insane range of choices for you to eat that will always left you fulfilled (you'll surely find your perfect place).
...for MUSIC LOVERS.
Can you hear the sound of music? Barcelona is a place that will always offer you the right option for you. It has massive pop concerts and tiny bars with cool artists. It has big music saloons (not sure what is the right English word for this) and festivals by the beach. In a huge explosion of tradition and modernity you will definitely find your right place to be.
...for MERMAIDS (or surfers or sailers).
Oh, who doesn't love the delicate sea... That is probably one of things that makes Barcelona specially from most of other big cities: the sea. The calming but stormy beautiful sea. Wether you'd like to swim, or sail or maybe surf or just relax and sunbath at the sun, you can do it. Most locals (sometimes including me) don't use it as often as they could, but it is a truly special place to go. And even at the beach, you can ride a bicycle through the maritime stroll or just walk in the sand. I have always been an enamored of the sea, so having it right next to my house has always been one of the things I'm most grateful for.
...for FAMILIES WITH KIDS.
Are you a family with little kids? Then I can assure that they and also you will love to visit this city. My strongest recommendation would be to go to Barcelona's ZOO which is pretty awesome for the children to see the animals and enjoy a beautiful day playing around. Then there are still so many other different options to explore such as The Ciutadella Park or Park Guell and an insane offer of activities for the tiniest at home you only need to discover.
...for HISTORY EXPLORERS.
Yay! If you like history, and exploring the remains that history leave us, then Barcelona does also become a perfect place for you. You can find from ever since the first Roman ruins, passing through medieval times, modernity architecture and until contemporary innovation. Take a stroll at the Old Neighborhood and discover how was Barcelona at the XII Century ... or maybe you prefer to walk around Eixample and feel the greatness of the Industrial Era. You know what they say, whatever you want, whenever you need it.
...for SPORTIES.
And also BANG! Barcelona will also be the right option for you if you are a sport lover. Besides having one of the most important football / soccer clubs in Europe and the world (by the way, VISCA EL BARÇA!) it has an even wider range of activities for you. Watch a basketball match, run some of the multiple marathons and simple runs they held and triathlons or visit the Olympic Sports Museum. Which brings me to say that you should also check out the Montjuïc zone, which has most of the incredible Olympic buildings constructed for the Barcelona 92.
...for ROMANTIC PAIRS.
It was Saint Valentin's yesterday and Barcelona is surely a place to be. Full of romantic walks and lovely dinner restaurants this is a city where you will happily spent your couple time and strengthen that beautiful bond you have together (oh what a romantic text I just got out of my mind!). Seriously, Barcelona is a gorgeous place to be and spend time with your other half, as I have said, it has the perfect option for every kind of person.
...for BOOK WORMS.
You guys know that I truly love reading and Barcelona does always have what I need. It has old libraries to discover (inside Pompeu University there is an old water deposit that has been transformed into a stunning library) and there also are old beautiful bookstores around town and breath-taking landscapes inside little cafes where to read your book.
...for the LGBT.
I shall admit I had no idea wether this was an option in Barcelona or not, but I though it should be the right thing to do to investigate a little in case there is any of you who would like to know it. What have I found out? That yes, there are also many many options for you. Check out Time Out to see how many different things you can enjoy or visit the Pride Festival this summer, between so many other things!
...for EXPLORERS or PHOTOGRAPHERS.
Barcelona is definitely a place you shall come to. One of its most beautiful things is to get lost, and discover its old streets and hidden secrets (while you can surely take some stunning pictures). And this is not just propaganda, it is truth. I do actually love walking around the city and exploring its astonishing beauty. Taking pictures of the little details or of the big landscapes. Oh, just feel the explosion of lights and colors and life and diversity around the city.
...for NIGHT OWLS
Mh, the night life (not that I am allowed to go to much often, but for all those grown ups who can). There are plenty and plenty great choices for completely everybody. From big parties to smaller comfy bars to stunning concerts to beach fun and outdoor night activities. You just have to find your way through the city and discover what you enjoy doing it after the sun goes down.
...for CULTURETTES.
Passionate about learning culture? Oh, Barcelona is right for you. It is fulfilled with different museums (such as MNAC - National Museum of Catalonian Art, the Chocolate Museum, the Science Museum or the Music Museum).
And by the way, they have just opened the Museum of World Cultures which will be free until April the 12th.
And by the way, they have just opened the Museum of World Cultures which will be free until April the 12th.
...for ARCHITECTURE GREATNESS.
Mh. lovely Barcelona who has seen architecture grow and grow. Here you can find extraordinary medieval buildings, and the most wonderful modernisms pieces of art (La Pedrera, Sagrada Familia...). You can find the modern and the old. For me, this city is one of those kind of places where you can just walk around and enjoy the views, because every single building as an amazing story behind it and a wonderful face to show to the public. You will never feel disappointed with our architecture!
...for FASHION VICTIMS or TECHIES.
As I have already said, the 080 Fashion Festival is coming around this month and that would be an amazing opportunity to check out the latests trends. But if you can't attend it, don't worry, there is always plenty of chic fashion in the streets so you won't be missing anything. And the again, for festivals you do also have the Mobile World Congress around the corner to enjoy the latest technology and innovations (for all of those who have a big techie hidden inside you, like me!).
...for TEENAGERS.
Last but not least, teenagers, just as me. And I can assure to everybody that it truly is an amazing city to live or visit for us. It has everything any teenager could ever ask for (and for all types of them!): sea, sports, sociality, cultural activities, young style, innovation... There are many options for you to choose, so you only need to find your most beloved one. Barcelona is a perfect city for us, and for everybody.
And for you, what is your perfect Barcelona?
Sincerely,
Vera
