'Do you need a favor?' my friend said with a cheeky smile. That had just been so random. The rest of the girls and me exchanged glances. 'I really mean it' she kept going, 'Does any of you need a favor?'. Whatever, we thought. 'Like, right know?' one asked.
-Yes.
-Well, I'm not about to be ran over, -another girl said sarcastically - but thank you anyway for your spontaneous offer.
She went through the things in her bag and she finally took out a circular coin that looked alike a FBI super secret microchip. I just guessed that she was a spy kid trying to save the world.
-It can be a little favor, though. - She realized that our faces remained astonished. - Ok, I'll explain!

When she had clarified everything, it turned out that I wasn't that wrong (unless for the secret canadian agent pretending to be spanish and about to do a huge break out and save the whole world story I had easily made up). It is a kind of improvement, still. It's the Social Coin. -Money has benefit humans in social organization and peace, but it has destroyed it, too -she said to us, - and this is willing to change it. |
It's pretty simple how it works. You can mint a coin or receive it from someone else. Then, whenever you do a favor - an act of kindness - to somebody (even if it is just the most random pointless thing in the world but still helpful) you pass it to them. Afterwards, you get to the www.thesocialcoin.com webpage and you can share your story of altruism and goodwill. Who you gave it to, what did you do, why you did it and basically, everything else that is in your mind. Now, it is that person's turn to do the same thing to someone else.
Whoever you gave it to, will offer it another person. That one, to another one. And the chain will be formed. A succession of disinterested favors that will inspire everybody to do a little better.
Each of this coins contains a QR code and a numeric code so you can track down where the coin you once had now is and what it has been through. It also keeps a seed inside, and after 3 months it has been minted, they plant a new tree somewhere. So you can see, this little thing is only fullfilled of great stories.
I first heard about this idea from my friend, who was firmly decided to hand it to some of us, and expand its potential. We were a group of girls from different places, different cities, different friends. Giving it to us would break those boundaries. I couldn't help thinking that that was a genuinely good idea. They are creating a new sequence of kindness actions.
My point is to encourage all of you to spread the goodness with everyone. Regardless of a coin or not. Because giving help is just as pleasant as receiving it. And we all love to be treated nicely.
Sincerely,
Vera
